The first time I drove into Modjeska Canyon, I had that moment of… Wait… where am I? It doesn’t feel like Orange County. It feels quieter, slower, almost like you took a wrong turn and ended up somewhere tucked away from everything.

And then you pull up to the farm, and it just keeps unfolding. There’s texture everywhere. Old structures, little pathways, animals moving around, kids immediately wanting to explore. It’s not overly styled or polished, and that’s exactly what makes it wild and so beautiful.

A Home With a Story

One of my favorite parts about this location is that it isn’t just a backdrop, it has history. The land is connected to Helena Modjeska, a Shakespearean actress from the early 1900s who made her home in this canyon. Over time, the land was divided and passed on, and parts of what’s there today date all the way back to the early 1900s.

There were a few small vacation cabins built in 1915 for people coming out from LA and Long Beach to escape the city for a bit. Which, honestly, still feels fitting.

When the current owners took over the property, it had been abandoned for years. Flood damage, overgrowth, trees literally growing into the structure… it wasn’t just a light refresh but it was brought back to life! And you can feel that when you’re there.

The Animals (and why kids love this place)

This is usually the part where my clients’ kids completely forget they’re even at a photoshoot. Every animal on the property has been rescued, and they’re not just there for looks, they’re part of the experience at an Orange County Farm Photoshoot location like this one!
